Wine Barrel Gardens

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the order process work?

Simply choose the type and number of products you would like from our Products Page, enter your contact details, select your delivery address and submit your payment (either via Visa, Mastercard, Paypal or Direct Deposit). Once your payment has been processed you will receive an email confirming your order, along with a tax invoice/receipt. Our team will then contact you within two business days to organise delivery times/dates.

What name will appear on my statement?

‘David Gowenlock’ will appear on your Visa, Mastercard or Paypal statement.

I live in an apartment, can I still have a wine barrel garden?

The wine barrels make perfect instant gardens in small spaces. If you are not sure if the wine barrels will fit on your balcony or in your garden, please measure your space (see the dimension information below).

Will the wine barrel garden fit my space?

The wine barrels measure 72cm in diametre, 49cm in height (from lip of barrel to ground with caster wheels attached) and 220cm in circumference (around the top lip of the barrels). Please note that these measurements are approximate and may vary slightly between individual barrels.

How heavy are the wine barrel gardens?

A typical wine barrel garden weighs approximately 80 kilograms (barrel and soil weight without plants) Allow an additional 10 kilograms (approximate) for barrels planted with vegetables or herbs and a rose, olive or lemon tree. Please ensure that any space (balcony, pergola, paved area etc) can take the weight of the barrel prior to order, as we cannot accept any liability for damage or loss caused by the weight of the barrels. If you are unsure, please check with an engineer.

What is the best position for my wine barrel garden?

Your new garden will thrive in a sunny position that is semi protected from wind and will do well in part sun (although growth may be slower). A wine barrel garden is not recommended for full shade.

Can I move my wine barrel garden around?

The wine barrel gardens are fitted with quality galvanised caster wheels, enabling you to easily roll the gardens around (but please take care as they are heavy!). The gardens typically do better in a sunny position, so you may want to move them to different spaces depending on the season for best results.

Please use the form available on our Contact Us page for a customised delivery quote.

Once I place my order, how long will it take for my wine barrel garden will be delivered?

We will deliver your new garden within 5 business days of order, as long as we can arrange a delivery time with you that is suitable.

What day of the week and time of day will you deliver?

Our team delivers on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and may deliver on Fridays and Saturdays by prior arrangement. Once you place your order our team will contact you to discuss delivery times.

Do the wine barrel gardens come pre-planted or do you do this on site?

Once the wine barrel gardens are completed they can weigh more than 120 kilograms each, so we assemble the garden (pour in the soil, plant the seedlings and mulch) on site to save our team’s back’s and protect the plants from damage. Please notify us when ordering if your delivery location does not provide flat entry or elevator access.

How long does it take for the wine barrel gardens to be completed on site?

Generally it takes our team no longer than 30 minutes to complete an installation, however this does depend on how many gardens are being installed. We will coordinate this with you once your order is placed.

How do I care for my wine barrel garden?

We recommend you water your wine barrel garden every day (evening is preferred to slow moisture loss by evaporation) during the first six weeks, and then every second day there after. A liquid fertiliser such as Amgrow Organix Harvest (fish, seaweed and fulvic acid fertiliser concentrate), mixed according to directions and applied every 2 weeks will help nourish the plants. You may wish to consider purchasing our Care Kit, as this contains everything you will need to care for your new wine barrel garden.

Help! I have an infestation of caterpillars eating my garden!

We recommend that you remove the caterpillars (the ones you can find!) from the plants and use a product such as Yates Success Naturalyte Insect Control (mixed according to directions and sprayed onto the foliage) to prevent attacks. You may wish to consider purchasing our Care Kit, as this contains everything you will need to care for your new wine barrel garden.

Help! My rose has black spots on the leaves.

Black spot is a disease caused by a fungal infection. Try and remove the affected leaves and spray with a rose spray such as Yates Rose Shield Insect & Disease Spray (this will also control aphids, thrips, whitefly and two-spotted mite). You may wish to consider purchasing our Care Kit, as this contains everything you will need to care for your new wine barrel garden.

How long before I can start harvesting from my wine barrel garden?

Given the right conditions your plants will thrive and will be ready to eat within 6 to 8 weeks of delivery.

How long will my plants last?

Most herbs and vegetables are annuals, meaning that they will not produce indefinitely. Generally the plants will produce for around 3-4 months (as long as you care for them) and will need replacing after this time. You can slow the plants life cycle by cutting off any seed heads that form.

Will you deliver replacement plants if I need them?

At this time we are not delivering replacement plants, however if the demand is there in future, we may do so.

Will you offer a refund if I am not satisfied with my garden?

Please review our Terms and Conditions page for complete term and conditions.
